Why We Meet

Being Together

We’re thinking about the times when we meet – on Sunday mornings and in Core Groups.  Why do we do it, how should we approach these times and what should our expectation be?

We’ll be thinking about singing, learning and praying, but today, in the All Together Service, we started at the basics – being together.

Some things consider:

Meeting together is such a central part of church life – we can do it without thinking of why.  Look at these Bible verses and use them to help you think about the questions below:

Hebrews 10:24-25

Matthew 18:20

Colossians 3:16

1 Thessalonians 5:10-13

Ephesians 2:20-22

  • If you listed the elements of our meetings, both Sunday services and Core Groups, what things make the list?
  • Where do you think you might have complacency or overfamiliarity with meeting together?  What effect, good or bad or both, might this have?
  • Are there aspects of our meetings that you don’t understand why they happen?  Try to think about why we do them?
  • What aspects of our meetings do you prefer? Which aspects don’t you prefer? Why is this?
  • What expectation do you bring to our meetings? What is the expectation for the different elements of our meetings?
